History

Joy Reynolds founded the School in 1939 with the simple aim of sharing her love of drama and music. Since that time thousands of students of all ages have now studied drama, music and public speaking within what has become recognised as a centre for excellence in the teaching of the Performing Arts in South Yorkshire.

Robin Manley, Joy Reynolds’ son, joined in 1977 and now runs the School, assisted by a professional and dedicated staff. In addition to teaching, Robin has produced and directed at least two shows annually at Sheffield venues, all of which have involved many of the School’s students.
